Small ships. Big access.
A smaller ship can slip into bays, approach remote coastlines, and launch Zodiacs toward places the larger ships admire from a very respectful distance.
EXPEDITION CRUISES
Expedition cruising takes you beyond the usual ports—to ice-filled bays, wildlife-rich islands, remote coastlines, and places where the day’s best plan may arrive with the weather.

THE DESTINATION SETS THE AGENDA
The ship becomes your base camp. The expedition team turns what you see into something you understand. And the world outside decides what happens next.
You may head out by Zodiac, step onto a beach with no road in sight, watch wildlife from the deck, or follow a naturalist toward something you would never have noticed on your own.
You do not need to be an endurance athlete, sleep in a tent, or lose your fondness for a lovely dinner. Expedition cruises range from active and practical to remarkably luxurious. The important part is matching the destination, ship, activity level, and creature comforts to you.
The itinerary is the plan. The weather, wildlife, and ice reserve the right to improve it.
WHAT MAKES IT AN EXPEDITION?
Expedition cruising is not simply about reaching a remote place. It is a different way of experiencing it—closer, more curious, and with people aboard who can turn an extraordinary view into a much richer understanding.
A smaller ship can slip into bays, approach remote coastlines, and launch Zodiacs toward places the larger ships admire from a very respectful distance.
Naturalists, historians, marine biologists, photographers, and cultural specialists help you notice more—and understand why what you are seeing matters.
Wildlife, weather, tides, and ice do not consult the printed itinerary. The best expedition teams read the day and turn flexibility into opportunity.
Your version may be a Zodiac ride and a gentle walk, or kayaking, hiking, and snorkeling. The point is not to prove anything. It is to experience more.

A MUCH BIGGER ADVENTURE MAP
Expedition ships reach places where deep knowledge, nimble operations, and smaller groups matter. The destination may be icy, tropical, wildlife-focused, culturally rich—or several of those before lunch.
Icebergs, penguin colonies, whales, spectacular silence, and the great white continent itself.
Remote communities, tundra, glaciers, dramatic fjords, and wildlife shaped by the far north.
One of the world’s great living laboratories, explored through guided walks, Zodiac rides, and time in the water.
Ancient landscapes, tidal phenomena, waterfalls, rock art, and coastlines built for small-ship access.
Marine life, volcanic islands, remote communities, and cultures that bring a human dimension to discovery.
Whales, bears, birdlife, glaciers, desert-meets-sea scenery, and wild corners that reward a closer look.
THE QUESTIONS THAT CHANGE THE ANSWER
I begin with what you hope to experience—and how you want to experience it.
Penguins? Polar bears? Whales? Geology? Culture? Photography? A particular landscape? The destination and season need to support the dream.
Zodiac cruising and gentler walks can be deeply rewarding. So can kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, or a longer day ashore. The right answer is the one you will enjoy.
Practical and casual? Warm and refined? Highly luxurious? Expedition capability and onboard comfort can live together in many different proportions.
Flights, hotels, park fees, expedition gear, specialty activities, drinks, gratuities, and transfers vary widely. The headline fare rarely tells the whole story.
Weather, wildlife, sea conditions, and ice can change the day. The best expedition teams do not simply follow an itinerary; they read the destination.
THE MOMENT YOU CAME FOR
Perhaps it is a whale beside the Zodiac, the blue of ancient ice, a quiet landing on a remote shore, or a guide pointing out the one small detail that changes how you see the entire landscape. Expedition cruising creates the conditions for those moments—and then leaves enough room for surprise.
THE MATCH IS THE MAGIC
In expedition cruising, the small print can have very large consequences.
I love comparing the parts that truly shape the journey: the experience of the expedition team, the ship’s size and capabilities, how landings are managed, which activities are included, how comfortably you live aboard, and how the operator handles the many moving pieces before and after the cruise.
My role is to listen for what excites you, understand what gives you pause, and connect you with an adventure that feels thrilling for the right reasons.

IS EXPEDITION CRUISING RIGHT FOR ME?
You care more about where the ship can take you than how many venues it has.
You enjoy learning from people who are genuinely excited to share what they know.
You can trade a rigid schedule for a better encounter with the destination.
You like the idea of being active—but want the activity level matched honestly to you.
You want to return with stories that begin, “This was not actually on the itinerary…”
EXPEDITION CRUISE QUESTIONS
Not always. Some journeys offer gentle Zodiac cruising and easier shore visits; others include longer hikes, kayaking, snorkeling, or more challenging landings. Mobility requirements vary by destination, ship, and sailing. I will help you look honestly at the day-to-day experience—not simply the highlight reel.
A Zodiac is a small inflatable boat used to travel between the ship and shore or explore close to the water. Some landings may be wet, meaning you step into shallow water before walking onto the beach. Crew members provide instructions and assistance, and suitable footwear is often supplied or available to borrow.
They do not have to be. Expedition ships range from practical and casual to highly luxurious, with beautiful suites, excellent dining, spas, and generous public spaces. The goal is to find the balance of capability, comfort, and atmosphere that feels right to you.
Wildlife is wonderfully uninterested in guarantees. Seasons, weather, food sources, and animal behavior all matter. Choosing the right region and timing can improve your chances of seeing what matters most, but the most rewarding approach combines good planning with a little humility.
Flexibility is part of a genuine expedition. Captains and expedition teams adjust plans for safety, conditions, wildlife, and unexpected opportunities. A changed landing is not necessarily a lost day; it may lead to an experience no brochure—or website—could have promised in advance.
